Fundamentals of Digital photography workshop

PSM is happy to announce the Fundamentals of Digital Photography workshop.Photography is a never ending learning process. To get into the stream of this learning phase everyone has to start somewhere. This course is designed for those who are new to photography and would like to understand the basic concepts behind the camera and lens. 

This course covers the details required for a beginner to understand the light and the compelling factors required to make right technical judgment and the associated aesthetics before a frame is captured on the digital sensor.

Request all the members to make use of this opportunity to learn the basics of photography and to enhance their skills.





SYLLABUS FOR BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY

The basic requirement for any new photographer to shoot and not get disappointed with the images he/she gets.  The idea is to introduce the various aspects of digital photography, which are critical to get optimum images.

The workshop looks at the basics of photography only
 

HUMAN  EYE  &  CAMERA
    1. What makes the camera different from the human eye
    2. How to train the eye to look like a camera
    3. Capture na image and making a picture 
  1. CAMERA BASICS  &  EXPERIENCING THE EQUIPMENT
    1. The various functions of a DSLR
    2. ISO/ ASA
    3. The difference between the film camera and the new age digital equipments 
  1. UNDERSTANDING ISO, APERTURE AND SHUTTER SPEED – EXPOSURE TRIANGLE
    1. The various permutations and combinations and the pros and cons of the them 
  1.  COLOUR TEMPERATURE
    1. White balance, temperature, hues 
  1.  FOCAL LENGTH,  DIFFERENTIAL FOCUS,  DOF 
  1. UNDERSTANDING LIGHTING – NATURAL  &  ARTIFICIAL
    1. The various lighting and their impact on the images 
  1. Basic COMPOSITION
    1. Rule of thirds
    2. Leading lines
    3. Capture the attention of the viewer to the vantage point
    4. Placing subjects in the vantage points


Your instructor for this workshop- Mr.Ramanidharan
 
Since discovering his love for photography in 1974 with a friend’s borrowed Yashica, Ramanidharan started with part time assignments side by side with his bank job. 
A visit Somnathpur in 1979 opened his eyes to the marvels of Indian architecture. From 1981, he has been regularly travelling, capturing the marvellous architectural styles of the Pallavas, Cholas, Hoysalas, Chalukyas and Vijayanagara Empire, among others. 
Becoming a member of the  Photographic Society of Madras in 2008 stoked his  passion for photography. 
For nine years, Ramanidharan taught photography to the students of Visual communication, creating awareness about India’s heritage. 
Ramanidharan regularly organises heritage tours for photography students, to places such as  Mamallapuram, Kancheepuram, Mamandur, Thanjavur, Gangai Konda Chozhapuram, Dharasuram, Pazhaiyarai, Belur, Halebedu, Somnathpur, Hulikere, Belavadi, Hampi, Badami, Padatakal, Aihole, Udaipur and Kumbhalghat.

PSM Member – Rs 1000/-(Rupees One thousand only) [per member] 
Non PSM Member – Rs 1500/- (Rupees One thousand five hundred only) [per person]
  • Vegetarian lunch including tea and snacks will be arranged, the cost includes this also.
  • All participants who complete the course will receive the certificate of course completion.
  • Proper writing pad and chair setup will be provided.
  • Every member has to bring their own camera.
  • Having a camera is not mandatory for this course. But people with DSLR or Mirrorless or point and shoot cameras can be benefited from this course
  • This course will have instructors walking around the participants to help them navigate through the camera menus as when certain aspect is being discussed. We are trying to make this course very much hands on as possible.
