Exposed to photography from the film era, was the college champion in Photography.  I was spotted by the members of The Photographic Society of Madras and am a life member of PSM since 1987. The cost of raw film Academics, profession, marriage, baby food, and other materialistic issues in life made photography take a back seat for a good period and came back with in 2005 with the digital equipment.  The revival of PSM in 2008 made me see my old photographic friends again and it was a roller coaster ride since then.  Unlearning, learning and very thrilling.
Fortunate to being at stone throwing distance to one of the most famous temples in India – the Kapaleeshwarar, and the Triplicane temples I have opportunities galore to photograph people, event and temple functions.

Rooted in Chennai due to family and professional commitments, I travelled a lot through books, TV programmes and films. With affordability and time increasing, I venture out, during weekends and ‘lean professional period’ to my second life – life of a travel photographer.  The initial period, and an never ending exciting facet of this is photographing in the streets Mylapore and Triplicane rich with the opportunities of street life be it its varied costumed people, interesting vendors, festivals, colours  and vibrant movement of life.

Whether shooting the tigers of Ranthambore, visiting the ruins of Hampi, or shooting the Taj, or the mountains and monasteries of Leh, the training a street photographer always lingers around and the traveler in me sought to give his observations in the photos.  Since I consider all kinds of photography as travel, my photo journey would comprise of nature, wildlife, people, street, macro, photo journalism and architecture.

The images had to be of a standard and I bench marked my images with the competitions and salons across the world. I had been participating since 2009.  Initially I drew blanks in many salons and later started getting acceptances.  In this process, now,  my images have been accepted in about 20 countries with over 50 images getting over a 100 acceptances. This helped me in obtaining two distinctions, namely ASoF from Delhi,  and AFIAP from France. My images can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bramanakumar/
